A Few of my Favorite Homesteading Things!
When finding great homesteading tools and gadgets to use on your hobby farm, sometimes you need to do a bit of a hunt. Luckily I love to hunt for homesteaded treasures, which is what this page is all about!
Let’s face it; homesteading can be hard, no matter what age you are. I have learned over the years that there are tools that allow me to continue living this lifestyle even with my sore back and knees.
I have used many items on this list, and others look too awesome, not to mention you.
To help I have things broken down by area so you can quickly scroll down the list.
🌻 IF YOU LOVE TO GARDEN:
The older I get, the more my back hates to bend over. So rather than forcing me down to my garden, I found it much easier to bring it up! I love this garden table, and I think it would be perfect for planting and growing herbs.
You can start an herb garden right now, no matter what time of year you are reading this. Get some organic potting soil, a nice selection of herb plants, and this raised garden bed, and get planting today. If the weather gets cold, you can always move it indoors in the evening and back out in warmer temperatures when the sun is up.
Having an extra pair of hands can be so helpful on the homestead; this utility wagon is what I love to call my extra hands!
Use it to pull water to the barn, bring new seedlings out to plant in your garden, or transport fresh organic soil from your compost pile. Whatever you need it for, I am sure you will love it as much as I do!
🐐 IF YOU LOVE GOATS:
July is hot no matter where you live, and many goats do not do well in that heat. If you have a large pasture having a shelter that is shaded from the hot summer sun is a great way to keep your herd cool.
A portable shelter is a great option that you can use not only give a shaded spot for your livestock but for the water source as well.
Break-away goat collars are something I find very useful with my goats.
It allows me to guide my goats to where I need them to be, but since they are “break-away” collars, I know they will not get hung up on anything that can cause them injury.
🐓IF YOU LOVE CHICKENS:
If you are brand new to chickens and only want to raise a few, a small chicken coop is all you need to protect your flock and their eggs.
I love this small chicken coop because it is compact which is a great option for anyone that wants to try out chickens without investing too much money in doing so.
Nesting boxes are an important part of a chicken coop as it gives our hens a safe place to lay their eggs. We like to use old milk crates for our nesting boxes, but I also understand that this might not be the best option for everyone.
Did you know you can purchase premade nesting boxes for your chicken coop?
🚜 IF YOU LOVE TO HOMESTEAD:
Keeping things organized is always at the top of my list because when I can find the tools I need more easily, I spend less time getting ready to work on projects. And as a homesteader finding ways to save time is a big bonus!
If you are looking for ways to organize your tools. To get them up and off the ground so you can find them more easily, this is for you. A homestead tool organizer that will fit in just about any outbuilding and get those tools up where you can see them and get to them more easily.
Homesteading in the winter can be a challenge; with all the snow and slush getting around can be twice as hard to do. I love this utility sled and have used it every day since I purchased it. It is super durable and can easily carry bales of hay to where my animals need it.
Talk about a tool that saves your back; this one is a winner.
Setting yourself up for easier work on your farm and homestead is important to being self-sufficient. Be good to yourself and your back, and use tools to make some of the work you have to do day in and day out a little easier.
I hope you found some great tools to try out on your homestead! Be sure to check back every week for more ideas!
