Having things you do each time of the day will help to break things down. I like to call these routines, and they can be a helpful guide for cleaning.

Morning Routine

The morning sets the tone for the rest of the day. Put your focus in your bedroom each morning so you are greeted with a neat and inviting space come bedtime.

#1. Make your bed every morning:

This simple task instantly makes any bedroom look neater and more put-together. Plus, it takes less than 5 minutes to do and starts your day off with a sense of accomplishment.

#2. Put away any clothes or items from the previous day:

Don’t let clutter build up in your bedroom. Take a few minutes to put away any clothes, shoes, or other items that may have accumulated overnight. This will keep your space tidy and make it easier to find things when you need them.

#3. Wipe down bathroom surfaces:

While getting ready in the morning, take a few minutes to quickly wipe down bathroom surfaces such as countertops and sinks. This will keep them clean and prevent any buildup of grime or germs.

#4. Do any dishes:

Instead of leaving dirty dishes in the sink to pile up, take a few minutes in the morning to wash any dishes from breakfast or put them in the dishwasher. This will prevent a mountain of dishes from forming and make it easier to keep your kitchen clean throughout the day.

#5. Deal with counter clutter:

The kitchen counter tends to be a catch-all for mail, keys, and other miscellaneous items. Take a few minutes each morning to sort through any clutter and put things away where they belong.

Afternoon Routine

Afternoons can be busy with work or other responsibilities, but taking a few minutes to tackle small cleaning tasks can make evenings more relaxing.

#1. Unload the dishwasher:

If you ran the dishwasher in the morning, take a few minutes to unload it and put away clean dishes. This will prevent dirty dishes from piling up in the sink and make dinner cleanup easier later on.

#2. Tidy up common areas:

Take a quick walk through your living room, dining room, and any other shared spaces to pick up any clutter or items that are out of place. This will keep your home looking neat and prevent messes from accumulating.

#3. Take out the trash:

If your trash bin is getting full, take a few minutes to empty it and replace the bag. This will prevent any unpleasant smells and make it easier to manage garbage throughout the week.

#4. Do a load of laundry:

If you have a spare moment, start a load of laundry in the afternoon. This will give you time to fold and put away your clothes before bedtime, avoiding a pile of clean laundry sitting around.

After Dinner Routine

It can be tempting to leave the kitchen messy and collapse on the couch, but I have learned that doing things sooner will ensure they get done before you head to bed.

#1. Wash dishes or run dishwasher:

After dinner, don’t let dirty dishes sit in the sink overnight. Take a few minutes to wash and put away any dishes or load them in the dishwasher. This will prevent food from hardening on dishes and make for an easier cleanup in the morning.

#2. Wipe down counters:

After using the kitchen for dinner, give your counters a quick wipe down to remove any spills or crumbs. This will keep your kitchen looking clean and make for easier meal prep the next day.

#3. Sweep the Floor:

If you have hard floors in your home, take a few minutes to sweep or vacuum them each evening. This will prevent dirt and crumbs from accumulating and keep your floors looking tidy.

Evening Routine

Before heading off to bed, take a few minutes to do a room reset in your main living areas. This time will give you a neater home to wake up to, giving you a more positive start to your day.

What is a Room Reset?

A room reset is simply taking a few minutes to neaten up your main living areas. This includes the family room, kitchen, or other space you use frequently each day. Just a few simple tasks can make a big impact on your space. Things like putting pillows on the couch, remotes in the bin, tossing empty snack bags, or gathering up toys. Doing this each evening will make for a more inviting and organized space.

#1. Put away items:

Before heading to bed, gather up any items that belong in another room. You can use a laundry basket for this task. Once done, walk your home and put any items in the basket away where they belong.

#2. Prep for tomorrow’s dinner:

If you know what’s on the menu for tomorrow, take a few minutes to do any prep work needed. This could include defrosting meat, chopping veggies, or taking out ingredients from the pantry.

#3. Prep for tomorrow:

Before going to bed, take a few minutes to prepare for the next day. This can include setting out clothes, prepping coffee, and making a to-do list. Having these tasks done ahead of time will make for a smoother morning routine and help you feel more organized.

#5. Take some time for self-care:

In addition to cleaning and preparing for the next day, take some time for yourself. This can include taking a relaxing bath, reading a book, or practicing mindfulness. Taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of your physical space.

By incorporating these tasks into your evening routine, you’ll not only have a cleaner and more organized living space but also promote a sense of calm and relaxation before heading to bed. A daily cleaning routine can set the tone for a peaceful night’s rest and make for a more productive and stress-free morning. For a cleaner home when you hate to clean, do these simple daily chores and have a home that is neater and more joyful to be in.
