Hello and welcome!

Hello!  My name is Tracy!  I am married to my Handy Man Hubby Pat and I am mom to my 4 grown boys. [spacer height=”20px”]

Since I was very young I always wanted to live on a farm surrounded by animals.  Cows, dogs, cats, chickens, pigs, horses, sheep, llamas, elephants…..hey I was little and my list was HUGE.[spacer height=”20px”]When I was a bit older my dreamed became more specific.  I dreamed of a day when I would have a farm of my own with a variety of livestock, a large garden and life based on simplicity and basic values. [spacer height=”20px”]I longed to raise my own food and live off the land.  Unfortunately, life happened and 4 boys later and a mountain of debt I was still in the same spot…just dreaming.[spacer height=”20px”]

One day it hit me.  I had just turned 40 years old and I had yet to do anything at all to get closer to becoming a homesteader.  I had a long talk with Handy Man Hubby and we decided it was time to make the leap…. before we were too old to do it.[spacer height=”20px”]

We started out with a small garden.  Next (thanks to 4H) we added some pigs and life went on….[spacer height=”20px”]

Then the garden got a little bigger.  Soon I got my first flock of chickens. Pigs came and went.[spacer height=”20px”]

The garden got still bigger.  More pigs and more chickens.[spacer height=”20px”]

More time passed and I was ready for my goats.  And, yes, the garden kept right on growing.[spacer height=”20px”]

Here I am a few years later and we are still growing and still learning. When I look back on everything I realized I could have saved myself a lot of trouble, heartbreak and worry if I just had a place to go for help when I was just starting out.  [spacer height=”20px”]The time I spent reading books and surfing the internet was sometimes overwhelming and frustrating. I wasted so much time trying to weed out only the information that pertained to me.[spacer height=”20px”]

After all, I was just a suburban raised city girl now living in the country starting a farm from absolutely nothing. [spacer height=”20px”]Many mistakes have become valuable lessons and around about journeys are now simplified into efficient routines.  I am still making mistakes (with quite a few successes thrown in for good measure) but in reality, that is what farming is all about.[spacer height=”20px”]My hope is that this blog will help you eliminate some of your mistakes by learning from mine with a few tips and tricks along the way.  [spacer height=”20px”]Homesteading can be frightening, but it doesn’t have to be.  I hope you will let me show you how to have fun as you learn to live off the land and rely less on big box stores.[spacer height=”20px”]I am so glad you stopped by.  Make yourself at home, and stick around for a while![spacer height=”20px”]

Live simply,[spacer height=”20px”]
