  • When you have a large flock of chickens, it is good to have more than one access to water. Especially as the weather warms up. But don’t just have access to make sure it is fresh at the very least daily if not a few times a day. I like to put a rock in our water bowls to keep things from getting tipped over since my chickens feel the need to stand on the edge to take a drink. I’ve tried the metal waters the plastic ones too, but I find these rubber bowls to work best and last the longest. #BackyardChickens #Chickens #ChickensForBeginners #Dogs #backyardducks #homestead #slcg

  • Getting ready to do a little hunting!!!
  • Getting my planters all set up for my back patio. One of my favorite things to do every spring! The colors are so pretty and the smell of the soil is amazing! The best part is when you do the planters yourself it’s actually a fraction of the cost and I can cover my patio with pretty flowers :-)
  • And another spring chore is checked off the list. The electric fence netting path line is all mowed and the goats can now officially spend sunny afternoons grazing. I love this fence and pasture rotation is now a breeze with it. The most important thing to remember is to mow down your fence line no matter what type of fencing you use for your goats. Make this a monthly chore to ensure that not only your goats are safe inside but predators remain out as well. #Goats #BackyardGoats #GoatFencing #premier1supplies #homestead #goattraining #slcg
  • Better late than never, but the onions are finally in! The only sunny day scheduled for the next 10! Luckily I have raised beds but since we’re used to being wet here every April and May I like to plant my onions in mounds it really does help to keep things from rotting underneath the soil. This afternoon I’m going to add newspaper and mulch, again just to make sure these little guys have the best chance to grow.   • Another sign of spring! The garlic is all cleaned off and ready to grow. As the temperature warms up the garlic should really take off. But weeding is super important at this point. Keep an eye on things and add a little mulch back on if the weeds get to be too much.Since the garlic sat all winter the ground is tightly compacted. This can make it difficult to get the weeds out so be careful when weeding close to the base of the garlic. Use a hand to hold the ground in place as you pull the weed out.   • The ducklings are in their new home!!. When Thelma heard their chatter she came running out of the coop all excited! She then rushed over to them quacking and running all around them. After just a few minutes the ducklings took to following her all over the run. ❤️❤️ then at dusk the ducklings could not figure out how to get into the coop so our big rooster stayed outside with them until we got there to help.   • Moving the ducklings into the main coop today. The poor things have no idea what they’re in for! I find it’s best to incorporate on days when I’m going to be home and working outside so I can keep an eye on things.
